We've cut through the jargon to give you what we think you want - simple and understandable pension information but without the patronising Janet and John style.  You will note that we assume you are not without intelligence!

Although we don't give individual pension advice, our aim is to provide you with all the pension information you need - in plain English - to give you more confidence with your pension decisions.

Don't get too hung up on the technicalities: using our simple information pages, you can soon get the hang of the basics -and like us we think you will see that pensions are a compelling investment with a tax break that makes them great value

Once you have the answers you need from our huge information bank you should, if appropriate, try to take some action on your pension as soon as possible.  Don't let the months and years drift by because it will make your task more difficult.  Try and do something now!

A-Day

Two Years On

The 6th April 2006 brought with it the new Pensions Simplification regime, also known as A-Day . There is a temptation to be cynical because it has proved to be far from simple, but..........but.......... it is better, at least for most people.

Most changes in the past have just been a way of making pensions less inviting or simply a subtle extortion of tax  through, say, the introduction of 'caps' to restrict contributions or disallowing the reclaimation of dividend tax by pension funds.

But Pensions Simplification breaks down the barriers of different types of pensions to make the basic framework - contribution levels, maximum fund, tax free lump sum, retirement ages - identical.

Expert Guidance at Pensioncheck

You can learn as much or as little as you like about pensions. Although the basics are common to the different types of schemes/plans there are still some differences. So we continue to show the separate categories,  Personal Pensions, Stakeholder Pensions, Company(Occupational) Pensions, AVCs,Annuities, Unsecured Pension etc. and you can even apply for a State Pension Forecast.

If you are starting from scratch why not begin at  Guide To Pensions.
Alternatively you can choose from the individual pages on the right menu and do your own thing.

Try the Budget Checklist to help you get some idea of how much you need at retirement and the Pension Calculator to work out how much you need to save to reach your goals.
